IDV fails with no reason shown: what to do

A KYC check rejected with no reason shown is a vendor result. It is not an AUSTRAC refusal, and it is not a list of other documents.

Quick answer

Tell the client the check did not complete. Do not guess a second document, and do not invent a reason the screen did not give. Your program says what a failed check means for the designated service. If it names no alternative, do not write one in the margin; FreeAML does not fill a blank the check left empty.

People search “KYC check rejected no reason” when a personal check comes back rejected and the screen shows no reason. Checked against AUSTRAC’s glossary entry for KYC information on 4 October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice. This page does not reproduce that guidance. What a completed check is for is what an AML check covers. How that differs from a title-office verification is VOI versus CDD. The sector map is /tranche-2.

A blank screen is still a result

A KYC check rejected with no reason feels unfinished, so staff go hunting for a document the client might hold. That hunt is the mistake. The result you have is that the check did not complete, and the reason was not shown. AUSTRAC’s glossary of KYC information is about what a program collects; it is not a menu of substitutes for a vendor failure, and this page does not turn it into one.

The next step is in the firm’s program. Some programs say retry. Some say stop the designated service until customer due diligence is done another way the program already describes. Some say escalate to the compliance officer; none of those sentences should be invented at the front desk; do not build an alternative identity pack from memory.

  • Read the result you have. Rejected, with no reason, is the whole message. Do not add a cause the screen did not state.
  • Tell the client the check did not complete. You can say that. You do not need a theory about why.
  • Open the program’s fail path. Retry, stop, or escalate only in the way the program already allows.
  • Do not invent documents. A blog must not list alternative identity documents. If the program is silent, the officer decides. The margin of the file does not.

What the blank result is not

Sorting a check that failed without a reason. This table does not reproduce a document list or AUSTRAC’s glossary.

Where this page stops

This page is the blank rejection. It is not the guide to a successful check. That guide is the KYC check guide. If the program allows a delay rather than a retry, the delay rules are delayed initial CDD, and this page does not restate them.

What the client pays

On FreeAML the firm suite is A$0. The firm emails the client a link. Verification is client-pays. On the public list a personal KYC check is A$20 and a company or trust KYB check is A$40. Use KYB when the customer is a company or a trust. A blank failure reason is not included as an explanation, and a second check is a new client-pays check only if you send one. Confirm the live amounts on FreeAML pricing. FreeAML does not explain a blank result or invent a document your program does not name.
