Accountant as registered office only
A registered office service can be a designated service even when the accountant does nothing else for that company. Address-only is not a free pass because you do not sign the accounts.
Quick answer
Registered office service AML is the question of whether providing the address is itself in table 6. It is a different row from nominee director, from forming the company, and from preparing the tax return. If you provide the address, the program has to classify it. You do not shrug because the work feels clerical, and any check the program then requires is client-pays.
People search “registered office service AML” when an accounting firm lets a few companies use its street address and assumes that cannot be a designated service. Checked against AUSTRAC's professional designated services page on 4 October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice. This page does not reproduce that guidance. The row-by-row sort is table 6 designated services. Accounting work more broadly is AML for accountants. The sector map is /tranche-2.
Clerical can still be a service
Registered office service AML matters because the work looks like mail. A company uses your street address on the ASIC record. You do not prepare the return, you are not the director, and you do not hold the shares. The program still has to ask whether providing that address is a designated service, and feeling clerical is not a classification.
This page does not quote table 6 and does not give you a yes. It stops the firm from skipping the question. If the answer in your program is that the address is in scope, due diligence applies to that customer before you keep providing it.
- Describe the work in one line. We provide the registered office, and we do not do the accounts.
- Compare the neighbouring rows. Nominee director and company formation are different services. Do not borrow their answer.
- Count the companies. A handful of addresses is still a service if you offer it.
- Put the answer in the program. Silence is not a decision that the row does not apply.
Address, office, formation, tax
A suburban practice often provides more than one of these, to different clients. Each client gets the row they actually receive. The firm that provides only the address does not get to hide inside the firm that also does tax.
Four things an accounting firm might be doing. This table does not reproduce table 6.
| What you provide | The question | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Registered office only | Is this address a designated service for us? | Too small to classify |
| Nominee director | Are we holding the office for someone else? | The same row as the address |
| Forming the company | Are we creating the company? | Covered because we also hold the address later |
| Tax return only | Is this return a designated service at all? | A reason to ignore the address you also provide |
Where the address page stops
This page is the registered-office-only question. It is not the table 6 decision tree. Use table 6 designated services for the sort.
It does not say a mail arrangement is always in, or always out. Your program has to say which, against the current guidance.
What the client pays
On FreeAML the firm suite is A$0. The firm emails the client a link. Verification is client-pays. On the public list a personal KYC check is A$20 and a company or trust KYB check is A$40. Use KYB when the customer is a company or a trust. An address on its own is not a KYB check, and it does not come bundled inside the firm suite. Confirm the live amounts on FreeAML pricing. FreeAML does not decide that a registered office is outside table 6 or classify the service for you.
