CPA Australia AML: starter kit and designated services
CPA Australia AML material is written for members. It does not enrol the practice, and it does not replace the AUSTRAC accountant starter kit.
Quick answer
Membership of a professional body is not enrolment and it is not a program, and a suburban tax practice opens the AUSTRAC accountant starter kit, deletes services it does not provide, and keeps the ones it does. The firm approves that program. Software then runs the checks the program names, and the firm suite is A$0. The client pays.
People search “CPA Australia AML” when a tax practice assumes a CPA factsheet has already done the AUSTRAC program. Checked against the AUSTRAC accountant starter kit on 4 October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice. This page does not reproduce that guidance. Which accounting services are designated is AML for accountants: designated services. What you still edit in a kit is the starter kit customise note. The sector map is /tranche-2.
Member material is not the kit
A professional body can explain the reforms to its members, and that explanation is not the AML/CTF program, and it is not the enrolment. AUSTRAC published an accountant starter kit and told firms to customise it. A three-partner tax practice in the suburbs does that work whether or not the partners are CPA members. The non-member down the street has the same AUSTRAC starting point.
The edit is the designated services, and accounting work that is not a designated service stays out. Work that is a designated service stays in, with the customers and the risks that practice actually has. An untouched download describes a generic firm. This page does not reproduce the kit and it does not summarise a member factsheet line by line.
- Open the accountant kit. A legal kit or a real estate kit will not describe a tax practice, even if a partner likes the headings.
- List the services you provide. Delete the rest. Adding a service later means editing the program, not hoping the old file still covers it.
- Enrol as the business. The member number does not enrol the partnership, the company, or the sole practitioner.
- Then use software for the checks. The program names when a person is KYC and when a company or trust is KYB. The software does not pick the services.
Factsheet, kit, program, check
A short map of the kits across sectors is the starter kits summary. Accountants as a sector, beyond this kit point, are AML for accountants in Australia.
What each item does for a tax practice. This table does not reproduce AUSTRAC’s accountant starter kit.
| Item | What it is | What people hope it is |
|---|---|---|
| Member factsheet | A body’s explanation for its members | The firm’s program and its enrolment |
| AUSTRAC accountant starter kit | The sector starting point you customise | A finished program you only have to save |
| Approved program | The rules this practice will follow | A PDF nobody has read since the seminar |
| A customer check | KYC for a person, KYB for a company or trust, client-pays | Included in the membership subscription |
Where the member-factsheet page stops
This page is the order of operations for a CPA member: kit, designated services, approval. It is not the body’s factsheet and it is not a list of every accounting service that is designated. FreeAML does not join you to a body or lodge your enrolment.
What the client pays
On FreeAML the firm suite is A$0. The firm emails the client a link. Verification is client-pays. On the public list a personal KYC check is A$20 and a company or trust KYB check is A$40. Use KYB when the customer is a company or a trust. A professional-body factsheet is not a check, and a membership fee is not the client-pays verification. Confirm the live amounts on FreeAML pricing. FreeAML does not enrol your practice or turn a member factsheet into the program.
