Conveyancer starter kit walkthrough
The conveyancer starter kit is AUSTRAC’s starting file for that sector. You customise it to the services you provide, and a person approves it; the download is not the approval.
Quick answer
Open the conveyancer kit, not the real estate kit and not a generic template. Read the getting-started page, then the updates, so you are not editing a superseded file. Delete services you do not provide and keep the ones you do. The senior manager approves it; software comes after; the firm suite is A$0; the client pays the checks the approved program names.
People search “conveyancer AML program starter kit” when a conveyancer has downloaded a starter kit and is about to treat the blank file as the firm’s program. Checked against the conveyancer program starter kit getting-started page on 4 October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice. This page does not reproduce that guidance. All the sector kits in one place are on the starter kits summary. What every firm still customises is on the starter kit customise note. The sector map is /tranche-2.
The order for a conveyancing desk
Start on the conveyancer getting-started page, then check the updates page so the file in your folder matches what AUSTRAC last changed. A kit saved months ago can be the wrong base. The real estate kit is the wrong base even if you sit near agents all day. Your designated services are the conveyancer’s.
Customising means the services, the customers, and the risks of this firm. A practice that assists transfers and holds trust money describes those. A practice that does not hold money takes that part out rather than leaving a control it will not perform. Approval is a named person and a date; until that date, you have a download; this page does not fill the kit in for you.
- Use the conveyancer kit. The filename should say so. A real estate download will describe an agency.
- Read the updates before you edit. Customising a superseded file wastes the edit.
- Cut services you do not provide. An untouched section is a promise you may not keep.
- Approve in writing. The compliance officer can prepare it. The approval is still a decision, not a save.
Four steps, and what is still open
Walk them in order. Firms that buy software on step one are approving a blank. The checks make sense only after step four.
A conveyancer’s first pass through the starter kit. This table does not reproduce AUSTRAC’s conveyancer starter kit.
| Step | What you open | What is not done yet |
|---|---|---|
| Getting started | The conveyancer kit, current version | Your firm’s services |
| Updates | The updates page for that kit | Any edit made on an old file |
| Customise | Services you provide, customers, risks | Approval |
| Approve | Name and date of the senior manager | The checks, which follow the program rather than replace it |
Where the walkthrough stops
This page is the conveyancer order of work. It is not the summary of every sector kit and it is not the general customise note. Those are the starter kits summary and the starter kit customise note. The updates page for this kit is the one to read before you edit.
FreeAML does not customise the kit and does not approve it. The firm suite is A$0. When the approved program requires a check, the firm emails the client a link and the client pays.
What the client pays
On FreeAML the firm suite is A$0. The firm emails the client a link. Verification is client-pays. On the public list a personal KYC check is A$20 and a company or trust KYB check is A$40. Use KYB when the customer is a company or a trust. The firm suite does not include customising or approving the conveyancer kit. Confirm the live amounts on FreeAML pricing. FreeAML does not customise or approve your conveyancer program.
