AUSTRAC Online MFA problems on enrolment day
On enrolment day the second factor sometimes will not complete. That is an access problem for a named person; it is not a reason to skip enrolment or to borrow someone else’s login.
Quick answer
Use the recovery steps AUSTRAC Online publishes. Keep the factor with a named administrator, and store backup codes where the compliance officer can reach them before you need them. A shared office login makes it unclear which factor was registered. This page does not explain how to defeat the second factor; a locked sign-in does not let the firm provide a designated service without lodging.
People search “AUSTRAC Online MFA” when the person who was going to enrol the firm cannot complete the second factor, and the office is looking for a workaround. Checked against AUSTRAC’s enrol with us page on 4 October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice. This page does not reproduce that guidance. The form itself is the enrolment form guide. What to have ready before you start is the enrolment checklist. The sector map is /tranche-2.
A failed factor is an access problem
Enrolment day is when a named person signs in to AUSTRAC Online and the second factor will not complete. The firm still needs to enrol. A failed factor is not permission to provide a designated service without a lodgement, and it is not a reason to borrow a colleague’s login.
Fix access through the recovery steps the service itself publishes. Do not look for a bypass on a blog.
- Named person. The factor belongs to an administrator the firm can identify, not to a shared office login.
- Backup codes stored. Put them with the records the compliance officer can reach, before the morning you need them.
- Recovery, not invention. Follow the steps AUSTRAC Online shows. This page will not add steps of its own.
- No shared sign-in. Another person completing a login they do not own is not a record of who enrolled the firm.
What usually failed
Second-factor trouble on enrolment day. This table does not reproduce AUSTRAC Online’s recovery screens.
| What failed | What it usually is | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Second factor will not complete | An access problem for the named administrator | Permission to skip enrolment |
| Administrator away | Nobody else holds the factor | A reason to use a colleague’s login |
| No backup codes | They were never stored | Something a vendor can recreate from outside |
| Shared office login | Unclear which factor was registered | A compliant record of who enrolled |
Where the sign-in page stops
This page is the access problem on enrolment day. It is not the form you are trying to lodge, and it is not the checklist of what to prepare. Those are the enrolment form guide and the enrolment checklist.
What the client pays
On FreeAML the firm suite is A$0. The firm emails the client a link. Verification is client-pays. On the public list a personal KYC check is A$20 and a company or trust KYB check is A$40. Use KYB when the customer is a company or a trust. The firm suite does not hold a second factor and does not sign in to AUSTRAC Online. Confirm the live amounts on FreeAML pricing. FreeAML does not reset a second factor, sign in to AUSTRAC Online, or describe a bypass.
