14-day rule for enrolment changes
Some enrolment details have to be updated within a short window after they change. Firms call that window the 14-day rule; the factsheet is the list of which details count, and this page does not copy it.
Quick answer
Record the date the firm knew of the change. Check the factsheet before you decide the change is too small to lodge. Update AUSTRAC Online if it is on the list, and keep the receipt. Do not wait for an annual tidy-up; if you are unsure, lodge the update rather than a note that says probably not; the firm suite does not lodge it for you.
People search “AUSTRAC 14 day update” when a firm has changed address or appointed a new director and nobody has opened AUSTRAC Online since enrolment. Checked against the Tranche 2 obligations factsheet on 4 October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice. This page does not reproduce that guidance. How you enrolled the first time is the AUSTRAC enrolment guide. What a reporting entity is, before any update, is reporting entity. The sector map is /tranche-2.
Count from the day you knew
The window is short because enrolment details are how AUSTRAC knows who you are. A suburban firm that batches changes into a quiet week can miss it. Write down the date someone in the firm first knew, not the date a form was found.
Then read the factsheet for whether that detail is one you must update. This page will not invent the list, and it will not invent a penalty for being late.
- Date of knowledge. The window runs from when the firm knows, not from when someone feels ready.
- The factsheet decides the field. A hunch that an address is minor is not the list.
- Keep the receipt. The lodgement record sits with the program, next to the original enrolment.
- If unsure, update. A receipt beats a note that says the change was probably optional.
Changes firms sit on
Sorting an enrolment change. This table does not reproduce the obligations factsheet.
| Change | What to do | What people delay |
|---|---|---|
| New business address | Check the factsheet, update if listed, keep the receipt | The next time someone logs in |
| New director or equivalent | Same test against the factsheet | Waiting until other paperwork feels finished |
| A new designated service | Update if required, and edit the program to match | Assuming enrolment updates itself |
| Unsure it is listed | Lodge and keep the receipt | A month of debate and no record |
Where the 14-day page stops
This page is the update after you are enrolled. It is not the first enrolment, and it is not the definition of a reporting entity. Those are the AUSTRAC enrolment guide and reporting entity.
What the client pays
On FreeAML the firm suite is A$0. The firm emails the client a link. Verification is client-pays. On the public list a personal KYC check is A$20 and a company or trust KYB check is A$40. Use KYB when the customer is a company or a trust. An enrolment update is not a customer check, and the firm suite does not include lodging it. Confirm the live amounts on FreeAML pricing. FreeAML does not decide which enrolment field changed, or lodge the update.
