What a Tranche 2 platform should include besides an ID check
An identity check answers whether this person is who they claim to be. A Tranche 2 platform, for a small firm, also has to hold the customer risk rating, who approved it, and a separate path for a company or a trust.
Quick answer
Buy the record you will be asked for later, not only a face match. That record is the rating, the approver, the date, and whether the customer was a person or an entity. Enrolment, the program, and any report stay with the firm. The firm suite is A$0; the client pays the check; an ID-only login does not do those jobs.
People search “AML platform vs ID check only” when a two-partner firm is comparing logins and one of them only returns a pass or fail on a passport. Checked against AUSTRAC’s AML/CTF program overview on 4 October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice. This page does not reproduce that guidance. What any free tool should hold is what a free AML tool should include. What a single check covers is what an AML check covers. The sector map is /tranche-2.
The ID check is one line on the file
A pass on a passport is useful and narrow. The compliance officer will later be asked why this customer was accepted, not only whether a photo matched. A platform that cannot store the rating, the name of the approver, and the date will push that proof into someone’s inbox. A platform that only knows individuals will also mis-price a company or a trust as if it were a person.
- Keep the rating. The program’s scale, the result, and the date belong on the file, not in a side spreadsheet with no owner.
- Name the approver. Someone approved the rating. A shared login called office does not answer who.
- Split person and entity. Personal KYC is not company or trust KYB. The price and the record are different.
- Leave enrolment and reports alone. Software does not enrol the firm and does not lodge a suspicious matter report.
ID-only against a small-firm platform
What an identity check leaves undone. This table does not reproduce AUSTRAC’s program overview.
| Job | ID check only | What else the file needs |
|---|---|---|
| Is this the person? | Often yes | Still not the risk rating |
| Who approved the rating? | No place to put a name | Name, date, and the factors used |
| Is the customer a company? | A director’s passport is the wrong object | KYB on the company or trust, then the people |
| Can you show the program was followed? | A pass or fail PDF | The program’s step, recorded against that matter |
Where the platform page stops
This page is the gap between an identity check and the rest of the file. It is not a feature list for every tool, and it is not the contents of one check. Those are what a free AML tool should include and what an AML check covers.
What the client pays
On FreeAML the firm suite is A$0. The firm emails the client a link. Verification is client-pays. On the public list a personal KYC check is A$20 and a company or trust KYB check is A$40. Use KYB when the customer is a company or a trust. The platform login is not a bundle of free checks, and an identity result does not include company or trust KYB. Confirm the live amounts on FreeAML pricing. FreeAML does not replace your program with an identity check, or enrol the firm.
